Faces of The Dead |
This page is currently devoted to the victims of the South Asian Tsunami. The current estimates are that 212,611 people were killed in this disaster. The actual number is probably higher. Many towns in Indonesia were completely destroyed with few bodies left behind to count, or family members left to report the losses.
We frequently hear of large numbers of people killed in war or natural disasters. It is difficult to visualize numbers that large. This Applet was designed to help us understand those numbers. Just enter a number in the box below and hit "Start" to see that many faces scrolling by. Try to watch until all of them have passed. The faces are iconic symbols meant to represent all people.

The numbers below are approximate. You can type any number into the field above and hit start.
