Wire Installation for Macintosh OS 8 & 9

The Wire software and documentation is Copyright 2000-2002 by SoftSynth.com, All Rights Reserved

Requirements

  1. Wire currently runs on Mac OS 8 and 9. A separate download is available for OS X.
  2. Wire requires the Java Virtual Machine which can be obtained from Apple. Try running Wire first. If you cannot run it, then come back and get Java from here. You only need MRJ to run Wire. But if you want to compile JSyn programs then you will need the SDK as well.
  3. Wire requires JSyn for MRJ. If you have not already done so, please install the JSyn Plugin for MRJ, OR install the JSyn SDK.

Installing Wire

The browser may have unstuffed the Wire archive as it was downloaded. If not, unpack the .SIT file by dropping it on StuffitExpander.

Running Wire

Double click on the "Wire.app" icon.

Exiting Wire

  1. If you are in a patch window, select "Main Window" from the "View" menu.
  2. From the Main Window, select "Exit" from the "File" menu.
  3. You will be asked if you want to save any modified patches.
  4. Do not exit Wire by hitting "Apple-Q" or by selecting "Quit" from the Apple menu. That just stops Java but does not cleanup Wire. So unsaved patches will be lost, and ASIO sound cards may get hung requiring a Restart of the Macintosh.
